α-Terpinene (Terpilene) is a monoterpene found in the essential oils of a large variety of foods and aromatic plants such as Mentha piperita. α-Terpinene is active against Trypanosoma evansi and has the potential for trypanosomosis treatment. α-Terpinene has antioxidant and antifungal properties[1][2][3][4].
IC50 & Target:Trypanosoma evansi[1]
In Vitro:α-Terpinene (5 μL, 0-9 h) results in a dose-dependent trypanocidal effect[1].
In Vivo:α-Terpinene (0.5 mL/kg, p.o., 10 d) results in a decreased longevity in mouse model[1].
α-Terpinene (1.0 mL/kg, p.o., 10 daily for 90 d) results in increased longevity and has 14.28% curative efficacy when combined with Diminazene aceturate (D.A.) (HY-12404)[1].
