2-Ethylbutyric acid is a volatile fatty acid. 2-Ethylbutyric acid exhibits phytotoxicity. 2-Ethylbutyric acid is used as an internal standard in milk and dairy products and as an internal standard (IS) in the calibration of fecal VFA standards. 2-Ethylbutyric acid can be used in the research of embryonic development[1][2][3][4].
In Vitro:2-Ethylbutyrate exhibits acute phytotoxicity in seed germination bioassays with test plants including lettuce, radish, and annual ryegrass, with ED50 values of 0.1-1.0 mM[3].
In Vivo:2-Ethylbutyric acid (600 mg/kg; s.c.; single dose) shows teratogenic activity in pregnant mice[4].
2-Ethylbutyric acid (150-200 mg/kg; p.o.; once daily; gestation days 6 to 15) shows no developmental toxicity in pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats, with a No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) of 200 mg/kg[4].
