Avarofloxacin (JNJ-Q2) is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent being developed for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin-structure infections and community-acquired pneumonia with oral activity. Avarofloxacin (JNJ-Q2) is an aminoethylidenylpiperidine fluoroquinolone that demonstrates antibacterial effect against numerous Gram-positive bacteria with a mean 0.12 mg/L MIC90 value. Avarofloxacin (JNJ-Q2) has potential for treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections[1][2][3].
In Vitro:Avarofloxacin exhibits high antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), with a 90% minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC90) of 0.25 µg/mL[1].
Avarofloxacin has a MIC90 of 0.015 µg/mL against Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococci[1].
Avarofloxacin has a MIC90 of 0.12 µg/mL against Streptococcus pneumoniae[1].
Avarofloxacin has a MIC90 of 0.015 µg/mL against Haemophilus influenzae[1].
