Iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate, 99% (Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, 99%) is an orally active iron salt. Iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate, 99% replaces iron found in hemoglobin and myoglobin, allowing for the transportation of oxygen via hemoglobin. Iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate, 99% is mainly used for the prevention of iron-deficiency anemia. Iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate, 99% also has anti-tumor effects on chronic myeloid leukemia and breast cancer[1][2][3].
In Vitro:Iron (II) sulfate (16-125 μM; 48 h) heptahydrate, 99% shows an inhibitory effect on the growth of K562 chronic myelogenous leukemia cells and T47D breast carcinoma cells[1].
In Vivo:Iron(II) sulfate (up to 11.5 mg/kg bw/day; p.o., via diet; 31-61 days) heptahydrate, 99% accumulates in the liver, spleen, and kidneys of rats without any other toxicologically significant effects[2].
Iron(II) sulfate (0.4 mg/kg b.w./10 days; p.o., via drinking water; 10 days) heptahydrate, 99% is less effective than iron oxide nanoparticles in treating iron deficiency anemia in rats[3].
