Acamprosate calcium(Campral EC) is a GABA receptor agonist and modulator of glutamatergic systems; reduces alcohol consumption in animal models of alcohol addiction.
In Vitro:Acamprosate calcium (100-300 μM) inhibits Ca2+ influx through both NMDA receptors and voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels in rat mesencephalic neurones[7].
In Vivo:Acamprosate calcium (100-400 mg/kg, ip, single dose) exhibits antidepressant-like effect in mouse tail suspension test models[4].
Acamprosate calcium (200 mg/kg, sc, twice a day for 3 days) ameliorates alcohol-induced cognitive deficits, exhibits anti-relapse effect in mouse models[6].
