Lovastatin acid (Mevinolinic acid; MSD803), an active metabolite of Lovastatin (HY-N0504), is a potent competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor with a Ki of 0.6 nM. Lovastatin acid acts as a competitive inhibitor with respect to substrate HMG-CoA, interfering cholesterol synthesis. Lovastatin acid can be used for the research of hypercholesterolemia[1].

In Vitro:
Lovastatin acid (Compound sodium mevinolinate) potently inhibits partially purified activated HMG-CoA reductase with a competitive Ki of 0.64 nM[1].
In Vivo:Lovastatin acid (Compound sodium mevinolinate) (0.25-1.5 mg/kg; p.o.; single dose) inhibits rat plasma cholesterol synthesis from [14C]-acetate[1].
