(+)-trans-Limonene oxide is an antimicrobial essential oil component with activity against Staphylococcus aureus. (+)-trans-Limonene oxide acts as a selective agent for drug-resistant bacterial mutants without increasing the mutation frequency of Staphylococcus aureus USA300. (+)-trans-Limonene oxide can be used in studies of Staphylococcus aureus infection[1]. In Vitro:(+)-trans-Limonene oxide (375 μL/L; 10 days) selects for the OXLIM strain from S. aureus USA300, which has an MIC of 1500 μL/L (100% higher than wild-type)[1].
