Moronic Acid is a triterpenoid compound, which is an orally available anti-HIV agent with anti-inflammatory activity. Moronic Acid can inhibit viral replication, with an EC50 value of <1 μg/mL. Moronic Acid can be isolated from Brazilian propolis[1][2][3].
In Vitro:Moronic Acid is cytotoxic to H9 lymphocytes, with an IC50 value of 18.6 μg/mL[1].
Moronic Acid (10-20 μM) inhibits the polarization of intestinal macrophages to M1, reducing ROS levels as well as the expression of p-P50 and NLRP3 proteins[2].
In Vivo:Moronic Acid (5-10 mg/kg, i.g., once daily, 20 days) regulates the ROS - NF - κB - NLRP3 signaling pathway in mice by inhibiting ROS, improving inflammatory bowel disease[2].
Moronic Acid extends the survival time of HSV-1 infected mice and slows the progression of skin lesions[3].
