α-Methyl-p-tyrosine is a competitive inhibitor of tyrosine hydroxylase, which converts tyrosine into DOPA. α-Methyl-p-tyrosine is also an orally active inhibitor of catecholamine synthesis, inhibiting the hydroxylation of tyrosine into DOPA. α-Methyl-p-tyrosine can be used in research related to epilepsy, glaucoma, cancer, and other related diseases[1][2][3][4]. In Vitro:α-Methyl-p-tyrosine (1 μM, 2 days) can effectively inhibit Latanoprost (HY-B0577)-induced melanogenesis in human uveal melanocytes[3]. α-Methyl-p-tyrosine (2 g/day, administered for 10 months) can effectively inhibit catecholamine synthesis in pheochromocytoma, exhibiting antitumor activity[4]. In Vivo:α-Methyl-p-tyrosine (250 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection, single dose) can exacerbate the severity and duration of tonic and clonic seizures induced by Pentylenetetrazol in male CFI mice[2].
