4α-TPA is an inactive form of TPA, and is used as a negative control for TPA-activated events[1]. In Vitro: TPA (5, 50, and 100 ng/ml; 24 hours), but not 4α-TPA, induces MMP-9 enzyme activity (MMP-9 zym) and mRNA expression (MMP-9 mRNA) in U87 cells[1].
