2-Hydroxycinnamic acid is a phenolic acid with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. 2-Hydroxycinnamic acid has antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and is not susceptible to drug resistance. 2-Hydroxycinnamic acid shows inhibitory effects on infection of HIV/SARS-CoV S pseudovirus with an IC50 of 0.3 mM. In addition, 2-Hydroxycinnamic acid has neuroprotective and antitumor activity[1][2][3][4].
In Vitro:2-Hydroxycinnamic acid (1-100 μM; 3 days) has toxic to HL-60 and A-549 cells with the IC50 of 65.6 μM and 52.7 μM, respectively[1].
2-Hydroxycinnamic acid (0.8-2 mg/mL; 24 h) has a MIC of 1.6 mg/mL and the inhibitory concentration of 1.2 mg/mL for two kinds of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and MSSA)[2].
2-Hydroxycinnamic acid (40-200 μM; 1 day) inhibits Aβ40 fiber formation and reduces Aβ40-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells[3].
In Vivo:2-Hydroxycinnamic acid (40-200 μM; 34-46 h; incubated in NGM medium) has a positive effect on Alzheimer's disease induced by Aβ toxicity in C. elegans[3].
