D-(-)-Mandelic acid is an orally active alpha hydroxycarboxylic acid that can be isolated from bitter almonds and Indian chestnut trees. It has antioxidant and antibacterial properties and is expected to play an important role in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis[1][4]. IC50 & Target:IC50: 118 μg/ml (DPPH), IC50: 242 μg/ml (ABTS) In Vitro:D-(-)-Mandelic acid (62.5-1000 μg/mL) shows excellent antioxidant activity against DPPH and ABTS free radicals[1]. D-(-)-Mandelic acid (0.3125-5 mg/mL) exhibits inhibitory effects on the cell viability and growth of E.coli ATCC 25922[2]. D-(-)-Mandelic acid (16-160 μg/mL) exhibits anti Toxoplasma activity[3]. In Vivo:D-(-)-Mandelic acid (40, 80, 160 mg/kg, p.o.) has anti-arthritic effects in arthritic rats[4].
