L-Dihydroorotic acid is an important intermediate in the metabolism of orotic acid and a substrate of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH). L-Dihydroorotic acid can reversibly hydrolyze to yield the acyclic L-ureidosuccinic acid by dihydrowhey enzyme[1][2]. In Vitro:Orotic acid is reversibly converted to L-Dihydroorotic acid under the catalysis of DHODH and with the participation of DPNH (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) and H⁺. This reaction is a key step in the synthesis and decomposition of pyrimidines and is likely to be widespread in tissues such as microorganisms and animal livers[1][2].
