N-Methylphenethylamine

N-Methylphenethylamine is an indirectly acting sympathomimetic amine that is formed via PNMT-catalyzed N-methylation of phenethylamine (PEA) in the human body. N-Methylphenethylamine exhibits affinity for β-adrenergic receptors on the surface of cancer cells or bacterial cells. N-Methylphenethylamine can be used for neurotransmitter research or as a pharmaceutical intermediate^[1]. IC50 & Target:IC50: Neuromodulator^[1] In Vitro:N-Methylphenethylamine itself has no antibacterial activity. It can react with (hydroxymethyl) diphenylphosphine to synthesize PNMPEA, a phosphorus-containing ligand with a phosphorus-nitrogen chelating framework. This design aims to improve the cell membrane permeability and antibacterial efficacy of subsequent metal (Ru, Ir) complexes by leveraging the biological activity and lipophilicity of the alkaloid moiety^[1]. In Vivo:When administered intravenously (i.v.), N-Methylphenethylamine exerts circulatory effects equivalent to 1/80 to 1/100 those of adrenaline; pressor and positive chronotropic effects are observable within approximately 30 minutes following continuous administration^[2].
