D-Melibiose is a disaccharide which is composed of one galactose and one glucose moiety in an alpha (1-6) glycosidic linkage.
In Vitro:D-Melibiose can be used as a carbon source for growth by microorganisms E. hormaechei subsp. oharae and E. hormaechei subsp. steigerwaltii[1].
D-Melibiose is the substrates of galactose oxidase (Gal-OD), and can be used for construction of Gal-OD enzyme electrode[2].
