Avarol is a sesquiterpene hydroquinone that can be isolated from Dysidea avara sponge. Avarol has the potential for the research of ehrlich carcinoma (EC) and cervical cancer (CC-5)[1]. In Vitro:Avarol (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200 µg/mL; 72 h) shows cytotoxic for HeLa, LS174, A549, MRC-5 cells with IC50s of 10.22, 34.06, 35.27, 29.14 µg/mL, respectively[1]. In Vivo:Avarol (50 mg/kg; i.p.; daily for 14 days) shows anti-tumor activity in mice[1].
