Maleimide can be used for production of antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) which is used in cancer research. Maleimide also be leveraged for the preparation of fluorogenic probe, which is mainly used for the specific detection of thiol analytes[1][2]. In Vitro:Maleimide binds rapidly and covalently to the sulfhydryl (-SH) group of cysteine residues, that can be used in the drug delivery system for improved cell uptake efficiency[3]. In Vivo:Maleimide modified liposome (M-GGLG-liposomes, 2 mg/kg, sc, twice in an interval of 2 weeks) exhibits antitumor in mouse models with a better and long-term efficacy[3].
