Melitracen (Melitracene) is an orally active tricyclic antidepressant and it is also a bipolar thymoleptic with activating properties. Melitracen inhibits 3H-5-HT and 14H-5-HT with IC50s of 670 nM and 5500 nM, respectively. Melitracen can be used for the research of depression and anxiety[1][2]. IC50 & Target:IC50: 670 nM (3H-5-HT), 5500 nM (14H-5-HT)[2] In Vitro: Melitracen (0-10 μM; 10 min) inhibits 3H-5-HT in synaptosomes and 14H-5-HT in blood platelets[2]. In Vivo: Melitracen (10-90 mg/kg; p.o. once daily for 3 months) affects behavior, weight and growth of rats[1].
