Heptadecanoic acid is an odd-chain saturated fatty acid (OCS-FA) with oral activity. Heptadecanoic acid can inhibit cell proliferation and induce Apoptosis. Heptadecanoic acid has antitumor activity. Heptadecanoic acid is associated with a number of diseases, including coronary heart disease, pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis[1].
In Vitro:Heptadecanoic acid (100 μM, 48 h) significantly inhibits the proliferation and migration of PC-9 and PC-9 /GR cells and promotes apoptosis by activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway[1].
In Vivo:Heptadecanoic acid (5 mg/kg orally, 10-14 days) significantly increases the frequency of defecation in rats[2].
