Dihydrouracil (5,6-Dihydrouracil), a metabolite of Uracil, can be used as a marker for identification of dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD)-deficient[1][2]. In Vitro:Uracil is the endogenous substrate for DPD, and Dihydrouracil is the product of Uracil. Multiple studies have shown an association between high endogenous Uracil levels or a low Dihydrouracil/Uracil ratio and severe fluoropyrimidine-associated toxicity[1].
