Vanillyl alcohol (p-(Hydroxymethyl)guaiacol) is an orally active phenolic alcohol. Vanillyl alcohol reduces ROS generation. suppresses Bax, increases Bcl-2. Vanillyl alcohol has anti-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive and neuroprotective effects. Vanillyl alcohol is used as a flavoring agent in foods and beverages[1][2][3].
In Vitro:Vanillyl alcohol (up to 0.5 mM) does not decrease the viability of RAW264.7 cells[2].
Vanillyl alcohol (1-20 μM; 4 h) increases the viability of MPP+-induced MN9D dopaminergic cells[3].
In Vivo:Vanillyl alcohol (3-30 mg/kg; p.o.) inhibits Acetic acid (HY-Y0319)-induced vascular permeability in mice[2].
Vanillyl alcohol (3-30 mg/pouch; administration into the pouch) reduces the exudate volume, the number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, and the nitrite level in Carrageenan (HY-125474)-induced air pouches in mice[2].
Vanillyl alcohol (3-30 mg/kg; p.o.) inhibits the Acetic acid-induced writhing response in mice[2].
