Melilotic acid (3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-propanoic acid) is an orally active compound. Melilotic acid can be isolated from the bark of Chinese cinnamon. Melilotic acid has a significant inhibitory effect on gastric ulcers induced by serotonin (HY-B1473A), phenylbutazone (HY-B0230), ethanoyl, and water immersion stress[1][2].
In Vivo:Melilotic acid (3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-propanoic acid; 40 μg/kg; p.o., i.v., intraduodenally) inhibits gastric ulcers induced by Phenylbutazone, Ethanol and water immersion stress in rats, and slightly inhibits Aspirin (HY-14654)-induced ulcers in rats[2].
