Pinoresinol is a lignol of plant origin serving for defense in a caterpillar. Pinoresinol drastically sensitizes cancer cells against TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) -induced apoptosis[1][2]. In Vitro: Pinoresinol facilitated death-inducing signaling complex formation to trigger a caspase-8-dependent apoptotic cascade activation in TRAIL-resistant glioblastoma cells[2].
