Bephenium (hydroxynaphthoate)

Bephenium hydroxynaphthoate is an orally active anthelmintic with anthelmintic activity against hookworms and roundworms. Bephenium hydroxynaphthoate reduces egg counts, promotes worm expulsion, and most expelled roundworms die at approximately 24 h, while the rest show weakened activity. Bephenium hydroxynaphthoate can be used in research related to ascariasis, hookworm infection, and roundworm infection^[1][2]. In Vivo:When bephenium hydroxynaphthoate (1.25 g, bephenium base equivalent; oral) is administered to subjects with Ascaris infection, 86% of the subjects expel the worms, and 71% of the subjects achieve an egg clearance rate of >80%. This dose is identified by researchers as the minimum effective dose^[1].
Oral administration of Bephenium hydroxynaphthoate promotes the expulsion of Ascaris within approximately 0.5 h to 3 d; the worms are usually still alive upon expulsion, but most die at around 24 h, with the remaining ones showing only weak activity^[1].
The direct egg smear clearance rate of Bephenium hydroxynaphthoate (3 g, bephenium base equivalent; single oral dose) reaches 77%^[2].
