Aerobactin is a siderophore produced by bacteria. Aerobactin exhibits the primary activity of chelating ferric ions and transporting them into bacterial cells. Aerobactin promotes bacterial growth, biofilm formation, antioxidant stress resistance, and enhances bacterial virulence and transcellular translocation ability under iron-deficient conditions. Aerobactin is used in research on bacterial infections[1][2][3][4][5].
In Vitro:Aerobactin promotes bacterial adhesion and bacterial invasion into Caco-2 human colonic epithelial cells[1].
Aerobactin does not disrupt tight junctions in polarized Caco-2 cell monolayers[1].
Aerobactin promotes biofilm formation, confers resistance to oxidative stress, and reduces intracellular ROS accumulation in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis[2].
