Lasalocid (Lasalocid-A) is an antibacterial and anticoccidial agent that can be used as feed additives. Lasalocid exhibits antitumor activity. Lasalocid is orally active[1][2][3].
In Vitro:Lasalocid (2.5 μg/mL) inhibits the growth of white spot bacteria, yellow spot bacteria, and fibrinolytic vibrio[1].
Lasalocid works in the rumen by selectively promoting the growth of succinate-producing Bacteroides and S. ruminantium, which can lead to an increased formation of propionate in the rumen[1].
Lasalocid (0-5 μM, 24-48 h) inhibits proliferations of cancer cells PC-3 and LNCaP, arrests the cell cycle at G0/G1 phase, induces apoptosis and autophagy in PC-3 cell[2].
In Vivo:Lasalocid (5-20 mg/kg/day, po, for 4 weeks) protects rats from Pneumocystis carinii-induced pneumonia[3].
