7-Methylcoumarin is a coumarin derivative with potent hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties. 7-Methylcoumarin is a mechanism-based inhibitor for CYP2A6. 7-Methylcoumarin significantly decreases alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and serum bilirubin (TB) in rats with CCl4-induced liver damage, whilst restoring total protein (TP) and albumin (TA) levels in serum as well as preventing oxidative stress. 7-Methylcoumarin can decline mitotic activity of A. sativum promeristem[1][2][3].
In Vitro:7-Methylcoumarin (0-60 μM, 30 min) is a mechanism-based inhibitor for human CYP2A6[2].
7-Methylcoumarin (1.249 mM, 1-24 h) results in chromosomal aberrations in A. sativum Promeristem, including dispersed prophase chromosomes, delayed disappearance of nucleoli, telophase bridges and irregularly shaped nuclei[3].
In Vivo:7-Methylcoumarin (50-100 mg/kg, p.o., 7 d) restored elevated levels of ALT and AST to near normal at 100 mg/kg in male SD rats[1].
