Levomenol ((-)-α-Bisabolol), a monocyclic sesquiterpene alcohol, exerts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic activities. Levomenol also has neuroprotective effects and prevents neuronal damage and memory deficits through reduction of proinflammatory markers induced by permanent focal cerebral ischemia in mice. Levomenol attenuates nociceptive behaviour and central sensitisation in a rodent model of trigeminal neuropathic pain. Orally active[1][2].
In Vivo: Levomenol ((-)-α-Bisabolol) (100-200 mg/kg; p.o.; one day before and 1 h after pMCAO; once daily for the following five day; Male Swiss mice) significantly reduces the infarcted area and neurological deficits caused by pMCAO[1]. pMCAO: permanent media cerebral artery occlusion.
(?)-α-bisabolol exerts anti-inflammatory effects by reducing astrogliosis, MPO activity, and TNF-α and iNOS production[1].
