2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate is a potent antifungal agent. 2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate significantly inhibited spore germination and mycelial growth of Alternaria alternata, with a MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) of 1.22 mM. The antifungal effect of 2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate against Alternaria alternate might be via reduction in toxin content and breakdown of cell membrane integrity[1][2].
In Vitro:2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate (Compound 2-PE ITC) (0-5 mM) leads to a reduction in growth of various fungi and oomycetes[1].
2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate (0-4.88 mM, 0-6 d) shows dose-dependent inhibitory activity against A. alternate[2].
In Vivo:2-Phenylethyl isothiocyanate (Compound 2-PEITC) (0-2.44 mM, 0-7 d) significantly controls black spot caused by A. alternate and damages membrane integrity of A. alternate in pear fruit[2].
