α-Solanine

α-solanine, a bioactive component and one of the major steroidal glycoalkaloids in Solanum nigrum, has been observed to inhibit growth and induce apoptosis in cancer cells^[1]. In Vitro:α-Solanine (10-50 µM, 24 h) inhibits the cell viability of JEG-3, inhibits the cell invasion and migration through block of MMP, inhibits the colony formation^[2].
α-Solanine (0.5-5 µM, 24 h) inhibits the expression of LPS (HY-D1056)-induced iNOS, COX-2 and pro-inflammatory cytokine like IL-6、TNF-α、IL-1β, inhibits the activation of NF-κB signaling pathway^[3].
α-Solanine (10 µM, 24 h) induces autophagy in cancer cell by increasing intracellular ROS levels, activating ER stress, and inhibiting the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. In Vivo:α-Solanine (5 mg/kg/day, ip for 7 days) exhibits antitumor activity in mouse models^[2].
α-Solanine (2.5-10 mg/kg, po., single dose) exhibits anti-inflammtory efficacy in LPS-induced sepsis mouse model^[3].
