Tolyl diiodomethyl sulfone is an organic antibacterial agent that does not cause significant changes in the number of resorbed fetuses, the number of dead fetuses, or the body weight of live fetuses in rats[1]. In Vivo:Tolyl diiodomethyl sulfone (0.125-1.0%; dietary; daily on days 6-15 of pregnancy) induces maternal toxicity at dietary doses of 0.25% and above (average daily intakes ≥182 mg/kg/day) but causes no significant teratogenic effects or meaningful developmental toxicity in rat offspring, even at the highest tested dose of 1.0% (average daily intake 411 mg/kg/day)[1].
