Butamirate is an orally active antitussive agent that acts centrally through the receptors in the brainstem. Butamirate also reduces the resistance in the airways by inhibiting bronchospasm and anti-inflammatory effect. Butamirate inhibits glioblastoma (GBM) growth and STAT3 activity. Butamirate can be used for the study of glioblastoma[1][2].
In Vitro:Butamirate (0.01-10 μM; 7 days) could effectively suppress sphere formation and STAT3 activity[2].
Butamirate effectively inhibits interactions of RRAD with pSTAT3[2].
Butamirate shows decreased EGFR, STAT3, ERK and AKT phosphorylation in U87MG[2].
In Vivo:Butamirate (2 mg/kg; intraperitoneal administration) suppresses tumor growth in a glioblastoma xenograft mouse model without significant adverse effects[2].
