Buforin II, derived from buforin I, a protein isolated from the stomach of the Asian toad Bufo bufo gargarizans, is a potent antimicrobial peptide. Buforin II has antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria[1].
In Vitro:Buforin II inhibits A. baumanniiATCC 19606 and multiresistant strains with the similar MIC values of 8 mg/L[1].
In Vivo:Buforin II (intravenously a single dose, 1 mg/kg) has potent antibacterial activity that effectively reduces lethality and leads to a significant reduction in plasma endotoxin and cytokine concentrations in male Wistar rat model of sepsis[1].
