Demeton-S-methyl sulfone is an organophosphorus insecticide metabolite.Demeton-S-methyl sulfone serves as a substrate for metabolic breakdown.Demeton-S-methyl sulfone forms via oxidation of demeton S-methyl sulfoxide in sugar-beet cell suspension cultures.Demeton-S-methyl sulfone undergoes thioester bond cleavage, producing ethanethiols that convert into S-methylated compounds or S-glucosides^[1]. In Vitro:Demeton-S-methyl sulfone (40 ppm; 3-17 days) is produced as a metabolite of demeton S-methyl sulfoxide by sugar-beet (Beta vulgaris L.) cell suspension cultures; demeton S-methyl sulfone accounts for 16.5% of total recovered radioactivity across incubation periods, peaks at 60% of recovered radioactivity after 3 days of incubation of the parent compound at 40 ppm, and undergoes subsequent metabolism to form additional products^[1].
