Disufenton sodium (NXY-059) scavenges free radicals, reduces ischemic damage and exhibits neuroprotective effects[1]. In Vitro:Disufenton sodium (250 µM, 24 h) reduces the blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability in bovine brain capillary endothelial cells, reduces brain edema and hemorrhagic transformation[3]. In Vivo:Disufenton sodium (28 mg/kg, iv and osmotic pump for 48 h) reduces cerebral infarction volume and improves behavioral dysfunction in marmoset permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) models[2].
