Furagin (Furazidine), an analogue of Nitrofurantoin (HY-A0090), is an antibiotic with antibacterial activity against ESKAPE pathogens with MIC values of 0-32 µg/mL. Furagin inhibits human Carbonic anhydrases . Furagin is promising for research of cancer and urinary tract infections (UTIs)[1][2][3][4][5].
In Vitro:Furagin (20-40 μM, 24 h) induces chromosomal damage and sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) in lymphocytes[2].
Furagin (300 μg, 24 h) induces expression of red fluorescent protein (RFP) that is under the control of the SOS-inducible sulA promoter in E. coli BW25113[4].
