Isosorbide mononitrate (Isosorbide-5-mononitrate) is an orally active nitric acid compound used for angina pectoris by dilating blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. Isosorbide mononitrate increases the viability and proliferation of HUVECs by decreasing Apoptosis and elevated the expressions of vedf, kdrl, pdgfr in zebrafish embryos. Isosorbide mononitrate is promising for research of heart failure and coronary heart disease[1][2][3][4].
In Vitro:Isosorbide mononitrate (0.5-50 μM, 5 min) inhibited angiogenesis in the chick chorioallantoic membrane dose-dependently[3].
Isosorbide mononitrate (4 ng/mL-5 μg/mL, 24 h) increases HUVECS viability and proliferation and decreases HUVECS apoptosis[4].
In Vivo:Isosorbide mononitrate (200, 600 μg, i.p., daily for 14 days) inhibits angiogenesis, tumour growth and metastasis in mouse tumour model[3].
Isosorbide mononitrate (500 μg/mL, 24 h) up-regulates expressions of vegf-a, kdrl, and pdgfr in zebrafish embryos[4].
