Introduction of 1582-09-8 :

Trifluralin is a selective, preemergence, soil-applied herbicide providing control of many important annual grass and broadleaf weed species. Trifluralin prevents weed growth by inhibiting root development through the interruption of mitosis. Trifluralin binds to tubulin and results in the failure of spindle apparatus and cell plate formation. Trifluralin inhibits radicle development on roots. Trifluralin inhibits cell mitosis. Trifluralin is considered to be neurotoxic and haematotoxic[1][2][3][4]. In Vitro:Trifluralin (Compound TFL) (22.3-1000 μg/mL) has cytotoxicity but no mutagenicity in Chinese hamster V79 cells and CHO-K1 cells[3]. In Vivo:Trifluralin (Compound TFL) (0-5000 mg/kg, in diet, 13 w) causes a reduction in absolute food consumption in parallel with a decrease in body weight gains in Wistar rats[3].
Trifluralin (0-500 mg/kg, in diet, on day 6-15 of gestation) causes marked toxicity to the dams and the death of numerous conceptuses shortly after implantation or during the early embryonic stage of Wistar rats[3].
Trifluralin (0-0.02 mg/L, 14 d) increases the AST in liver and blood serum, and ALP activity in the kidney of carp[4].
