INT (Iodonitrotetrazolium chloride) is a biochemical reagent mainly used in the iodonitrotetrazolium chloride (INT) colorimetric method to assess the metabolic activity of cells and the activity of enzymes[1]. In Vitro:INT can be used as a substrate for detection of dehydrogenase activity. Dehydrogenases are a class of enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of organic compounds by transferring hydrogen atoms to soluble INT to form red formazan, which can be quantitatively detected by colorimetry. INT acts as an electron acceptor to detect dehydrogenase activity and can be used to monitor microbial respiration, cell viability, and bacterial metabolism[2].
