Ethylenediaminetetra(methylenephosphonic acid)

Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid (EDTMP) is a bone-targeted chelating agent. Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid sodium‘s phosphonic acid groups possess a unique ability to bind with high affinity to hydroxyapatite in bone, and can form radioactive compounds with ¹⁵³Sm and ¹⁷⁷Lu. Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid is used to study palliative therapy for pain associated with multiple bone metastatic cancers^[1][2][3]. In Vitro:Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid forms stable complexes with ¹⁵³Sm and ¹⁷⁷Lu, and EDTMP delivers and immobilizes them at bone metastatic lesions. The β or γ rays released during the decay of ¹⁵³Sm/¹⁷⁷Lu produce ionizing radiation locally at the lesions to kill tumor cells, thereby achieving the goal of relieving bone pain^[1][2][3].
