Polymyxin B Sulfate is an antibiotic. Polymyxin B Sulfate inhibits Gram-negative infections by binding to the LPS of the bacterial wall with high affinity. Polymyxin B Sulfate neutralizes the effect of endotoxin. Polymyxin B Sulfate induces bacterial death by increasing its permeability. Polymyxin B Sulfate is used in endotoxemia research[1][2][3][4].
In Vitro:Polymyxin B (10 μg/mL, 6 h) Sulfate decreases the TNF-α and IL-10 production in Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) [3].
Polymyxin B Sulfate shows antibacterial activities with MICs of 0.5 mg/l for E. coli strain IH3080[4].
In Vivo:Polymyxin B (0.5-120 mg/kg; s.c.) Sulfate shows antibacterial activities in thigh or lung infection mouse model[2].
Polymyxin B (2 mg/kg, s.c.) Sulfate shows potent in mouse bactericidal effect against E. coli strain IH3080[3].
