Nystose is a tetrasaccharide with two fructose molecules linked via beta (1→2) bonds to the fructosyl moiety of sucrose. Nystose exhibits prebiotic, immunomodulatory, and metabolism regulating activities. Nystose promotes the bone mineralization by activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway[2].
In Vitro:Nystose can fermented by lactobacilli (L. intestinalis and L. reuteri), and promotes the proliferation of lactobacilli[2].
Nystose (0.1-10 μM, 48 h) increases the activity of ALP and the proliferation of BMSCs, promotes the bone mineralization by activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway[3].
In Vivo:Nystose (100 mg/kg, po for 14 days) enhances the intestinal IgA secretion and modulates systemic immune responses in BALB/c mouse models[2].
Nystose (40-160 mg/kg, po for 8 weeks) improves the bone density and bone microstructure in mouse models[3].
