Akardite II (AK-II) is a stabilizer for nitrocellulose (NC) propellants that scavenges NOx. Akardite II is used in research related to the identification of organic compounds in gunpowder[1][2]. In Vitro:Akardite II (AK-II) can be generated via a Phosgene reaction; it can be successfully identified in real hand samples from shooters; it is the most frequently detected gunshot residue compound and may have a longer retention time[1][2].
