Introduction of 128-09-6 :

N-Chlorosuccinimide (Succinchlorimide) is an oxidizing, hydrolyzable biochemical reagent with bactericidal and amoebicidal activities. N-Chlorosuccinimide can either form N-chloramines via concerted transfer of Cl+ or hydrolyze in aqueous solution to produce hypochlorous acid/hypochlorite. N-Chlorosuccinimide is effective in killing Shigella dysenteriae, Escherichia typhi and cysts of Entamoeba histolytica. N-Chlorosuccinimide can be formulated into fast-dispersing, fully soluble water purification tablets. N-Chlorosuccinimide is used in studies related to bacterial infections and parasitic infections[1][2][3]. In Vitro:N-chlorosuccinimide undergoes a first-order Cl+ transfer reaction with various amines to form the corresponding N-chloroamines. Benzylamine and 2,2,2-trifluoroethylamine also undergo first-order chlorination reactions of the same order of magnitude with it; meanwhile, this reagent hydrolyzes in alkaline aqueous solution under the same conditions, with a second-order hydrolysis rate constant of only 1.27×104 M-1s-1[1].
N-Chlorosuccinimide (succinchlorimide) kills Shigella dysenteriae, Escherichia typhi, and cysts of Entamoeba histolytica in tap water, natural river water, and swamp water within the temperature range of 36 °F to 80 °F[3].
