Bispyribac

Bispyribac is a selective, orally active, systemic and post-emergence herbicide. Bispyribac reduces SOD levels and inhibits ALS activity. Bispyribac blocks the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids, resulting in growth retardation, chlorosis and necrosis of weeds. Bispyribac exerts herbicidal activity against grass, sedge and broadleaf weeds in rice fields. Bispyribac is hepatotoxic and genotoxic^[1][2][3][4]. In Vitro:Bispyribac (500-5000 μg/mL) does not significantly increase the number of cells with chromosomal aberrations in Chinese hamster ovary cells^[3].
In Vivo:Bispyribac (16.47-65.88 mg/kg; p.o.; twice a week; for 3 months) causes chromosomal aberrations, an increase in DNA quantity, an increase in micronuclei level, and a decrease in mitotic activity in female albino rats^[3].
Bispyribac (40-80mg/kg; p.o.; 30 days) leads to a decrease in the body weight gain proportion, a decrease in Hb, RBCs, PCV, and an increase in WBCs, AST, ALT, ALP, MDA levels, as well as a decrease in SOD and GPX levels in female rats^[4].
