Epoetin alfa (Epogen) is a recombinant human erythropoietin whose amino acid sequence and biological activity are identical to those of endogenous erythropoietin (EPO). Epoetin alfa is a direct agonist of the EPO receptor (EPOR) on the surface of erythroid progenitor cells, and promotes the production and maturation of red blood cells. Epoetin alfa can be used for research on myelodysplastic syndrome-related anemia and hematological malignancies[1][2]. In Vitro:Epoetin alfa is produced via recombinant DNA technology in mammalian cells (CHO cells). By binding to EPOR and activating downstream signaling pathways, it stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells[1][2].
