Lumichrome, a photodegradation product of Riboflavin, is an endogenous compound in humans. Lumichrome inhibits human lung cancer cell growth and induces apoptosis via a p53-dependent mechanism. Lumichrom is the inhibitor for AKT/β-catenin signaling pathway[1][2].
In Vitro:Lumichrome (0-100 μM, 24 h) exhibits cytotoxicity in cancer cells H292, A549 and H460 (IC50 = 38, 54 and 79 μM, respectively), induces apoptosis in these cells, and inhibits the colony formation[2].
Lumichrome (0-10 μM, 5-28 days) inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption through inhibition of NFAT/NF-κB/MAPK/calcium signaling pathways[3].
In Vivo:Lumichrome (7.5 mg/kg, ip, three times a week for 6 weeks) reduces bone loss and prevents osteoporosis in the ovariectomized (OVX) mouse model[3].
