Hexylene glycol is a low molecular weight surfactant with antimicrobial properties. Hexylene glycol is widely used in industrial chemicals and cosmetics[1][2]. In Vitro: Hexylene glycol at 10% and 30% concentrations killed Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Group A Streptococcus, Streptococcus parvus, and Escherichia coli in fresh tryptone agar within 20 hours. Hexylene glycol at 5% concentration showed some antimicrobial activity, but hexylene glycol at 1% concentration had no effect[1].
