Taraxasterol is a pentacyclic triterpenoid compound isolated from Taraxacum mongolicum. Taraxasterol is an LXRα activator, with metabolic and anti-inflammatory effects. Taraxasterol may be used in research on immune-inflammatory diseases[1][2][3]. In Vitro:Taraxasterol (5-18 μg/ml, 1 h) inhibits vascular inflammation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells by activating LXRα [3]. Taraxasterol (2.5-10 μg/ml, 24 h) exhibits anti-inflammatory effects on human osteoarthritic chondrocytes [5]. Taraxasterol (114.68 μM, 24 h) has anti-metastatic effects on prostate cancer cells [6]. Taraxasterol (5-18 μg/ml, 1 h) shows no cytotoxicity to human umbilical vein endothelial cells at concentrations below 15 μg/ml [3]. In Vivo:Taraxasterol (2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg, i.p., 8 h) has a protective effect against acute lung injury in a lipopolysaccharide (HY-D1056)-induced acute lung injury mouse model[4].
