Phenylthiourea (Phenylthiocarbamide) is an inhibitor for phenoloxidase. Phenylthiourea inhibits enzymatic oxidation of DOPA by phenoloxidase (Ki = 0.21 μM). Phenylthiourea is an effective inhibitor for tyrosinase. Phenylthiourea can lead to graying of hair in black rats due to the interference with melanin formation[1][2].
IC50 & Target:phenoloxidase[1]
In Vitro:Phenylthiourea (Compound PTU) (0-20 μM, 0-300 s) affects the melanization process by either inhibiting the action of phenoloxidase directly or reducing DOPA-quinine to DOPA[1].
Phenylthiourea (0-2.5 μM) has inhibitory effect on DOPA oxidation catalyzed by phenoloxidase (Ki = 0.21 μM)[1].
Phenylthiourea (Compound Phenylthiocarbamide) inhibits the methemoglobin production in rat tissues[2].
